Who I am

Whose site is this?

My name is Francesca Pratesi, I was born in Olevano Romano, Rome, Italy, Europe, Earth. I graduated in Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures (English, French, Spanish) at Università degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza". I live in Rome, where I have been a lifelong French Language and Culture teacher in the State High School.

Because of my passion for art in general and literature and painting in particular, in my insufficient leisure I devote myself to writing short stories.

The site "PratesiPratesi.altervista.org" expresses my love for all arts.

Some ideas concerning narrative

What follows is meant to work as a sketch of guidelines for conscious writing.

I warmly invite professional and amateur writers who may broadly share the following ideas to comment, judge and enrich them by means of the “Comment” form that is to be found in the last page of the present site.

Narrative as a branch of literature, and therefore of art, needs to be:

accurate, precise and fit for what is narrated as regards both lexical and stylistic choices:

it must comply with likeliness both in the construction of dialogues and in the situations that are described;

competent:

it must deal with elements that are well known to the writer, be it out of personal experience, be it for acquired documentation. Observation and analysis of people and places will therefore be essential tools;

useful:

all and any art must be useful; this can be achieved

- by helping the reader reflect upon important themes, universal or private as they may be and

- by feeding him/her with beauty

so as to enrich his/her mind.

I personally side with committed writers.
